Servings : 3 to 4 Persons

1 kg mussels (shell fish /tisrya) approx 40-50 mussels
1 ½ cup finely chopped onion
¾ cup fresh grated coconut

salt to taste
1 green chilly
2-3 kokum
1 egg (optional)
4 tbspn oil

Method:
1. Wash mussels and keep them frozen for 2 hours. Take out them from defridge, shells will automatically open in ½ and hour.
2. While cleaning them, take out meat from one shell and keep one shell with meat. throw out all the empty shells.
3.  Clean half quantity mussels like I mensioned above and in half quantity take only meat. Throw all empty shells.
4. In some shells if you find tiny crabs, throw them and take mussel meat.
5. Heat oil in a saucepan and stir onion till translucent and soft. Add turmeric powder, red chilly powder. Then add mussels. Cover saucepan with a lid and let it boil for sometime.
6. Add fresh grated coconut and kokum. Usually mussels found in deepsea, so it is already salty. Add salt only it is necessary.
7. Add one egg and mix well. Let it cook for 5 minutes. Garnish it with coriander leaves. And serve with rice and solkadhi.

  1. Tai,

    1. Must the kokums be kept in warm water before adding? if yes, then for how much time

    2. You say in step 5 that I must let the mussels boil. But there is no water!

    Please advise
