Malvani Prawn Masala

Read this recipe in Marathi 
Servings : 3 to 4 Persons 

20-22 medium size shripms/ prawns
For grinding-
1 medium onion, julienned

1/2 cup grated dry coconut
Spices (4-5 cloves,1” cinamon stick,2 cardamom, 1 tspn fennel seeds, 1 ½ tspn coriander seeds)
2 garlic cloves
For making gravy-
½ cup finely chopped onion
½ tspn turmeric powder
1 ¼ tspn red chilly powder
2-3 kokum
Salt to taste
4 tbspn oil

1. Remove the head of the shrimp first. Pull off the tail and the outer shell of the shrimp. Take the vein out of the shrimp. If you are using frozen shrimps then wash them and just pull off the tail.
2. Heat 1 tbspn of oil in a saucepan. Add julienned onion. Stir for 2-3 minutes. Add garlic cloves,cardamom, Cloves,cinnamon stick, coriander seeds and fennel seeds. Stir everything till onion becomes golden brown. Add dry coconut and stir till it becomes brown. Let it cool down for sometime then grind everything with ½ cup of warm water to make a fine paste.
3. Heat remaining oil in a saucepan. Add chopped onion and stir till it becomes soft and translucent. Add turmeric powder and red chilly powder. Add onion-coconut paste and stir for 2-3 minutes. Add shrimps and salt. Cover saucepan with a lid and let it cook for 5-10 minutes. Add kokum and boil for 2-3 minutes.
4. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with rice or with chapati. You can serve kokum kadhi with it.
