Maharashtrian Katachi Aamti

preparation:
Pressure Cook 1/2 cup of chana dal with 5 cups of water till tender. Drain cooked dal and take remaining water (kat) for making amti. Use cooked chana dal for making puranpoli


Ingredients:
3 cups water of cooked chana dal
Masala-
2 tbspn dry coconut+ 1/4 tspn cumin+ 2 peppercorns+ 1 clove+ 1/2" cinnamon stick) roast everything together and grind to make powder.
2 1/2 tspn tamarind pulp
3 tbspn jaggery
1 1/2 tspn red chilly powder
1 1/2 tspn goda masala
1/4 tspn turmeric powder
For tempering-
1/2 tspn mustard seeds, 1/4 tspn asafoetida, 7-8 curry leaves

Method:
1. Add Ground masala in the chana dal water.
2. Add tamarind pulp,jaggery,red chilly powder,goda masala,turmeric powder and salt. Mix well.
3. Boil aamti for 5 minutes.Heat oil in a small saucepan. Add mustard seeds. Let it crackle. Add curry leaves and asafoetida. Give tadka to the aamti.
4. Serve this amti with puranpoli.
